France has introduced a major travel update that benefits Indian nationals. From 10 April 2026, Indian passport holders are no longer required to have an Airport Transit Visa (ATV) when transiting through French airports. This move simplifies international travel and strengthens mobility between India, France, and other global destinations.
From 10 April 2026, Indian nationals holding a valid ordinary passport can transit through airports in France without needing an Airport Transit Visa (ATV).
This applies only if you:
✅ Stay within the international transit zone
✅ Are traveling to a third country (final destination outside France)
✅ Do not exit the airport transit area
This decision follows the announcement made by Emmanuel Macron during his visit to India in February 2026.
The goal is to:
✅ Simplify travel for Indian nationals
✅ Strengthen France–India relations
✅ Promote international mobility and tourism
✅ Make French airports more accessible as global transit hubs
The rule was officially introduced through an amendment to the decree of 10 May 2010, which governs visa requirements for foreign nationals entering France.
The updated decree was:
📅 Published on 9 April 2026 in the Official Gazette
📅 Effective from 10 April 2026
This update is especially useful for:
🎓 Students traveling between India and other countries
💼 Professionals flying for work or business
🌍 Tourists using France as a transit hub

Even though the visa requirement is removed, you must still:
❗ Remain inside the airport transit zone
❗ Not pass through immigration (no entry into France)
❗ Hold valid travel documents for your final destination
❗ Have confirmed onward tickets
👉 If you need to exit the airport (for example, long layover or hotel stay), you will still need a Schengen visa.
An Airport Transit Visa (ATV) previously allowed travelers to:
Now, Indian nationals no longer need this visa for transit.
